Canada Johnson & Johnson and the Vaccine
In 2021, the race is on to vaccinate the world against a deadly virus!! Canada is dedicating significant effort and resources into finding a secure and effective vaccine to safeguard its citizens and provide an answer to COVID-19 pandemic 🇨🇦 ️ 🔛 🌍. Recently they announced a contract with Johnson & Johnson for supply of their promising one-dose vaccine – providing Canadians with hope for rapid success in coming months ️.
The Johnson & Johnson vaccine is a single-dose vaccine which means that it requires only one dose compared to the two doses of the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines 2️⃣ 1️⃣ ️. The simplicity and convenience of this one-dose vaccine are promising benefits for Canadians . Unlike the two-dose vaccines, it does not require a booster shot, and has been shown in clinical trials to become effective at protecting against severe forms of Covid-19 ️. Furthermore Johnson & Johnson’s vaccine only needs to be stored in a refrigerator at standard temperature making it easier and more efficient to transport and store compared to the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines which require storage at subzero temperatures ️.
The Johnson & Johnson vaccine has received conditional approval from Health Canada, meaning that it is allowed to be used in the country pending full approval. Johnson & Johnson has already supplied some doses of the vaccine in Canada but the bulk of deliveries are anticipated to arrive in the upcoming months 🇨🇦. It is looked for that a total of six million doses will be received by the end of May and an additional 3. two million doses will arrive in June 2️⃣.
As Canada moves ahead with its plans to vaccinate the population, it is focused on distributing vaccines equitably so that all Canadians have access to vaccinations regardless of location or socioeconomic status 🇨🇦 🔛. The Canadian government has pledged that those living in remote, rural and northern areas receive vaccines; to this end they are working closely with Health Canada in addition to provincial and territorial government to deliver these shots directly into these remote places 🇨🇦 🔚 🍁.
The Canadian government is also investing in research and development to make sure that the Johnson & Johnson vaccine is effective and safe for use 🍁. To do this they are supporting a clinical trial of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine at the University of British Columbia’s Centre for Health Evaluation and Outcome Sciences 🏫 ️. This trial is assessing the vaccine’s safety and efficacy in an effort to determine whether it is suitable for use in Canada 🇨🇦.
