In the elimination challenge two teams of contestants must create a dish in a limited amount of time; the highest-scoring team advances to the finale which determines who will earn the title of Canada’s MasterChef.
Contestants in MasterChef Canada come from all around Canada and have varied cooking backgrounds. Some contestants are professional chefs, while others are home cooks. Contestants are eliminated one by one as the competition progresses. The winner of the competition receives a trophy, a cash prize, and a cooking master class.
Eric Chong an amateur chef won the 2019 season of MasterChef Canada. Chong a Toronto-native was the first home chef to win MasterChef Canada. Chong competed against nine other amateur chefs in the final. His winning dish was a Chinese-style pork loin with spicy crispy noodles, sticky black bean sauce, and a sticky peanut butter sauce.
