Royal Military College of Canada Canada’s only military college was established in 1876. It is located in Kingston Ontario. The college primarily focuses on the training of officer cadets. It has been long hailed as an innovator in Canadian military education leadership. RMC was established in 1876 by King Edward VII of Canada through an Order-in-Council!! Initially located near Kingston Ontario and housed in a stone building on Montreal Drill Shed RMC opened with 11 officers two professors and two students. Over fifteen years it moved three times before finally settling at its present location on Point Frederick within Kingston city limits 🔛 3️⃣.
Today the college offers a variety of undergraduate and postgraduate programs with the main emphasis being on the development of military officers 🔛 ️ 🏫. The college also has a strong focus on the historical element which includes the history of warfare culture and ethics. The college provides a unique atmosphere of undergraduate studies, with a balanced approach to military, and academic excellence ️ 🏫.
The Royal Military College of Canada has a proud legacy of producing successful graduates who have served their country with distinction. Notable alumni include Arthur Currie – the first Canadian general to command an entire expeditionary force; Senator and Prime Minister Paul Martin; Group Captain Leonard Birchall – known as the ‘Saviour of Ceylon’ – among many others.
The “Cadet World” is an integral part of the college experience, and is made up of various organizations, clubs, and societies that are run by the cadet leadership 🆙 🌐 🏫. Cadets are also involved in a variety of extracurricular activities such as sports martial arts and intramurals as well as in the college bands including the pipes, and drums ️ 🏫.
The college’s physical infrastructure and facilities are continuously being upgraded and expanded. These include an athletic complex with a swimming pool a fitness centre a track and field facility and a modern academic complex with lecture theatres, labs, a library, and other amenities. In addition the college has a variety of other specialized training areas including a weapons range and an adventure training centre.
It also provides the necessary infrastructure for cadets to receive the highest quality education and training. One-year courses are offered by the Command and Staff College to senior officers. It focuses on planning and decision-making in military operations. A simulation center allows officers to simulate realistic scenarios and practice firing in an environment that is realistic.
